A year ago when I had decided to start building web application in “modern” style, using objects and ajax I had to decide what javascript library and PHP framework to use.

At that time there were many frameworks to choose from but Yii framework got my attention because of the fast performance, lightweight model (load only what is needed), native support for jQuery (at that time it looked to me as a very promising library so I decided to go for it, and as it can be seen now it was a good decision). Ad as the saying goes “I never looked back!“.

As I had not used PHP objects until then it was a bit difficult to get a start, but The Definitive Guide to Yii helped with the basic steps, though I had to read it a few times to understand all new (for me) concepts. Yii framework at that time had a small but very active  community on the forum, for every problem I got, there was someone eager to help me, but there where here and there some concepts that I had a hard time to understand.

Yii framework and his community has been growing since then and I’m happy to see that finally there is a book about Yii framework and Agile web application development from Packt Publishing.

I sure would have been happy to have this book at that time I was starting to learn Yii, but even as I use Yii for a year now there are parts of it that I still haven’t used or understood completely so I was waiting for a book like this.

I already ordered the printed version, but as I have to wait 4-5 weeks to get it, I got just today the e-book version so that I can have a read as soon as possible.

For all interested in a PHP high performance framework for developing large scale web application I suggest to give a read at this book – Agile Web Application Development with Yii 1.1 and PHP5 – to get a better understanding of the framework and agile web development in general.

Months ago I found a tutorial on how to create a tsunami with flash (link below). So I decided to make a easily customizable script with jQuery and this is what I got.

In this lesson we cover getting jQuery fully installed and inserted into our html document.
